Ian, age 54

Ian is a 54 year old fire fighter from Tamworth, Birmingham. Ian has always kept his hair short, so his hair loss journey never had that one dramatic “before and after” moment. Over time, he simply accepted that his hair was thinning and receding as part of getting older.

“Tbh I’ve always had short hair so there was never a great omg moment, kinda accepted it.”

He’d never tried any lotions, tablets or cover-up products. No fibres. No hair systems. No gimmicks. Just a cropped style and a quiet acceptance that this was how things were.

How Ian found Sharp SMP

Like a lot of clients, Ian first noticed scalp micropigmentation in the wild – on other people.

A couple of friends at work had clearly had something done. One of them denied having any treatment, but another was more open and honest. He told Ian he’d had SMP with Jack at Sharp SMP and recommended him straight away.

“I saw a couple of friends at work, one denied having had treatment but the other was open and he put me on to Jack.”

That word-of-mouth confidence, especially from someone in the same line of work, was the push Ian needed.

The consultation & decision

As a firefighter, Ian needed something that would stand up to real life: helmets, heat, sweat, shifts, and long days. No daily maintenance, no worrying about wind, rain or getting caught out at the gym.

SMP ticked all the boxes:

  • Low maintenance

  • Can’t wash or sweat off

  • Looks like natural stubble

  • Works perfectly with his already-short hairstyle

What mattered most to Ian was subtlety. He didn’t want to look like he’d had “a procedure” – he wanted to look like him, just fresher and more defined.

Treatment experience with Jack

Going into the first session, Ian was curious about how SMP would feel. He was pleasantly surprised.

“You could feel the SMP, but ever so mildly…”

Any slight sensation was easily managed – not least because Jack is, in Ian’s words, a “top lad” who keeps you chatting, laughing and relaxed throughout.

“You could feel the SMP, but ever so mildly, plus Jack can talk if you can, so conversation is a big distraction I expect.”

Knowing he was in experienced hands made a huge difference. Ian had already seen other examples of SMP that didn’t look great – treatments on friends done elsewhere that looked too harsh, too dark or just obviously fake.

“Experience was 5* – he is a top lad and made better knowing you are in good hands with his experience, as I’ve other mates who have had it done elsewhere and it’s pretty obvious 🙈”

At Sharp SMP, the focus was on a natural, age-appropriate result that suited a 54-year-old firefighter – not a cookie-cutter hairline.

The result

Ian’s SMP is deliberately subtle and tailored to him. It blends with his natural features and is balanced for his age, skin tone and lifestyle.

The best compliment? People don’t notice he’s had anything done – they just think he looks good.

“It’s that well done that it goes undetected and looks natural and age related…”

The treatment has given him:

  • A stronger, cleaner hairline

  • The look of fuller coverage without needing to grow his hair

  • A fresher appearance that, in his words, “possibly takes years off you”

He’s happy enough with the outcome that he talks openly about it and actively recommends SMP to others.

Ian’s advice to anyone considering SMP

For anyone sitting on the fence, Ian is clear:

“Without a doubt do it… I’ve told plenty of people and don’t know why they have reservations as it looks incredible and possibly takes years off you 🤔😂”

From someone in a tough, practical, real-world job like firefighting, that says a lot.

  • No lotions.

  • No wigs or systems.

  • No daily faff.

Just a natural, undetectable scalp micropigmentation result that fits his age, career and lifestyle.

If you’d like to see what SMP could do for you – in a way that looks real, subtle and age-appropriate – follow Ian’s lead and book a consultation with Jack at Sharp SMP.
